Is It a Good Idea to Let Your Kids Play Games on Computer?

01 Jan

Everybody knows that sooner or later buying an educational laptop for kids or a home desktop becomes something necessary, because knowing how to use a computer has become something essential in the right development of a kid.

But letting your kid to have access to a computer will give him a lot of possibilities, some with which you might not really agree. One of them will be that without doubt, he will want not only to use the computer for educational purpose but also to use it for different computer games.

Letting your kid play different types of games on the computer might not be completely a wrong decision, but there are several aspects which you should seriously take in consideration. First of all you will have to take a decision about how many hours you want to allow your kid to play on the computer, because nowadays more and more parents deal with a serious problem where the kids become obsessed of playing computer games, and in some cases even loss contact with reality. They might want to play for hours and hours, and that would surely not be a good idea. You will want him to use his free time for more educative reasons, or to go outside to play rather than playing on a computer. On the other hand you will not want to completely block his access to games. Every game has also a good role in the development of a kid, because it enhances certain qualities like speed of movement, attention to detail, speed of thought, speed of reaction and others. Probably the best would be to make a certain schedule for him that he must respect – for example you can let him play computer games for maximum 3 hours a day.

Another decision in letting your kids play on the computer is deciding what kind of games is appropriate for his age level. If your kid is smaller than 12 years, you won’t want to let him play shooter games, where the main objective would be annihilating all the opponents using different types of guns. It might not be your ideal perspective of the word “fun”. But there are sport games, racing games, and even specific kid’s games, of all kind of difficulties for all kind of age levels so you will surely have from what to choose when letting your kid play.

So playing computer games as fun activities for children is not a really bad idea, with the condition to impose certain limits that your kid must respect, otherwise it will turn in a bad idea. And don’t forget – the first objective of using a computer is the educational one, like accessing free books online for kids or other educative things.

Knowing the Basic

08 Dec

Hand gestures - LDS Social Network ForumsOne thing about knowing the basic of indonesian to english is that it helps those who lack the knowledge in this things to be able to catch up on the things that they have missed. I once lived in a compound wherein everyone except me speak Indonesian and I was speaking to them in perfect English with hand gestures and some charade like movements just so they can understand me. Imagine the frustration that I get whenever they can’t seem to understand the message that I am trying to tell them. Its also funny and amusing seeing them rack their brains for the right answer. But the thing is that knowing this language when I first came there would have definitely speed up my work load that I need to finish there but because of this barrier I was stuck for quite a couple of months there with no friends to help me but myself.

ESL Jobs Abroad

14 Apr

Some people say that ESL jobs abroad are not real jobs. In fact, I have even heard people say that English as a second language teachers are not real teachers. And after meeting a few ESL teachers, I can understand why some one would say that. But it is simply not so. At least not on average.

Yes, due to the fact that the demand out weighs supply, you can find some people working in the ESL industry that would not normally be found in any industry at home. But that does not mean ever English as a second language teacher is not really teaching or trying to give their students value for their money. A lot of ESL teachers are expats because they enjoy the freedom and life that being an ESL teacher can afford them. If you live on a beautiful island, eat great food, have great friends and spend your time enjoying life, why would you live any other way?

What is Differentiated Instruction?

12 Jan

If you have been wondering, “what is differentiated instruction?”, you are not alone. Many teachers have been told during recent years that they have a new teaching model that they have to follow and that differentiating instruction has suddenly become a job requirement.

At its heart, differentiation is basically a way to get every learner in a classroom to achieve a learning objective. The difference is, using this method requires that the teacher comes up with a way to fit the learning needs and styles of every student for each lesson taught. Students are striving for similar goals, but the paths they take to reach them could be very different.

Some students might show what they have learned by taking a test. Others might demonstrate newly acquired knowledge by putting on a classroom play or possibly making a video. The options are presented to students and they are given guidelines to follow for whatever project they might decide to choose. It can be challenging for more experienced teachers to adjust to this type of learning, but it does help to keep students interested and involved in their learning.

Relocating from Philippines

17 Nov

I am originally from the Philippines, but I have married a United States Navy man. He was stationed in the Philippines for six years, but has now been transferred back to the United States. We do speak English in the home, but I am finding that the local people are having a hard time understanding me. My husband has suggested that I look for english courses in usa, as this will help me with the grammar, punctuation, and dialect that I seem to be having such trouble with. I have found some courses that look very good and I plan to start in the next couple of months. Make sure the school is certified by a governmental body as it is important to avoid shady outfits run by gangsters and hooligans, we ought to be careful about such things. Stay away from danger and practice language often to improve.

05 Sep

If you have ever studied a language at school or college, then you will likely know just how frustrating a formal classroom situation can be.

First of all, you’ve got a teacher who has to divide his/her attention between you and everybody else in the class.

Then, you’ve got everybody else there watching and listening, making you feel very self conscious and much more likely to make a mistake. What a pain!

On top of this, to enrol now in a formal Spanish class can be costly, to say the least.

Could Spanish learning software be a better way? Let us briefly consider the advantages that interactive Spanish lessons and software can provide you with.

Firstly, they are convenient. You can study the course modules at your own pace and in your own spare time. You can study at home, in your lunch break, in the car, at the office, you name it.

Everything you need is right there in the course – just like having an expert one to one tutor by your side. You can easily work on your reading and speaking skills without having to worry about class-time running out, or other students judging you.

Thirdly, the material is in a down-loadable format and can incorporate games and tests, to help you to fully immerse yourself in the training. This style of training helps to create a wonderfully interactive learning experience.

Learning Spanish through Spanish learning software is still difficult – learning a new language always is, but many people have enjoyed success by availing themselves of high quality online training courses like this.

Poison Pill: Analysis Of Chapter 1 Page 1

24 Aug

The Poison Pill by Marciano Guerrero is long novel set in New York City and the small community called Delphi. It is a business thriller with elements of vampirism and supernatural events.

According to Mary Duffy’s eBook, sentence openers, what accounts for agile, fresh, acrobatic prose is sentence variation and how the author opens his sentences. What follows is a close look at the sentence openers of Marciano Guerrero’s novel The Poison Pill:

After exchanging a few words with Phil Kerdes, Dr. Bates dropped the receiver
and with a faint voice he told Bill Crabtree, “If I get any more calls, please tell
them I’ll be there tonight. Now, I’ve got to pack and drive to Manhattan right
away.”
As he drove his Audi across the Charles River, he debated in his mind: Cassandra’s
going to be upset when I tell her I’m taking off for New York. A sweet and loving
woman, but also a royal pain at times. He parked the Audi and strode to his house
with the ungainly gait of a tall man, his shoulders sagging. The old man worked
all his life-with the frenzy of a mad workaholic-and what did he get? In the
thick July heat, he felt his T-shirt stick to his long torso. He saw the group of
children playing quietly out front and three young mothers talking on the steps
of the neighboring house. Isn’t it odd…why are the kids noiseless today? Going
through the side door, he passed the kitchen, and plodded to the main bedroom.
He overheard a giggle. Ah, Cassandra is on the telephone. How to break the news
and not frighten her…what to say? Hesitating for a second, he stood frozen by
the bedroom door, and since it was ajar, he heard her voice and loud laughter.

The words in bold type are strong sentence beginnings that break the pattern ‘subject-verb-complement.’

Mary Duffy’s eBook sentence openers lists models of powerful sentence beginnings.
